My Brother’s House

my brother's houseOnce again, here I sit, but now I’m in a basement apartment at my brother’s house. I have cleaned it, reorganized and re-energized it – as is my modus operandi. Nothing much has changed from the life I left (as you can see) and yet everything has changed. Allow me to explain… Our adventure never really materialized, at least, not in the dreamy water color manner that we sketched out in our minds. After our initial glorious ten days of camping we realized a few things.

As we headed for our next destination in Utah, to spend a couple weeks with my brother and his wife, we came to the grim conclusion that we had to do the one thing we were trying to avoid – drop a huge chunk of money on a replacement vehicle.

Buying Experience

Our year long planning included researching tow vehicles and we had tentatively decided that if we had to buy a truck it would be the Ram 1500 4×4 Crew Cab. We got a lot of opinions about fuel type but ultimately, in the end, we went with gasoline. The diesel model of comparable age was not going to work with our budget. And, we really needed to find a truck as soon as possible… or did we?

The buying experience went just as one would expect. That uneasy feeling in the pit of your stomach as you sit there knowing you are being played with a sugary pretense of mutual respect as the shake down commences. I did manage to get the price down a little bit but you just know when you’ve been suckered. I should have walked away and waited for them to call me with a better price. This is my advice to anyone purchasing a vehicle – always walk away. Ego and finances bruised but still intact, we can say with confidence that this truck will do the trick and provide a more confident and relaxing tow experience.

Uncertainty

The truck purchase set us back in more ways than one. It seems life has been both very busy and yet stagnant. We thought we’d be able to hit the road after a few weeks visit in Utah but we postponed that due to the fires that suddenly sprang up and created more uncertainty and chaos.  Where we had planned to be on the move taking in the sights and sounds of the world around us we now sit in a self imposed quarantine of sorts.

Why, you ask? The reasons might come across as a cop-out but stay with me here. First, we have the absurdity of the decisions currently being imposed upon society over “you know what” which will then be temporarily eclipsed by another tumultuous presidential dog and pony show. We all know this will be followed by a vomit inducing wave of disembodied madness from a population already exhibiting signs of mental illness. Does that seem about right? Better to sit tight and face the brave new world after the snow melts and tensions thaw.

History Repeats

We continue to walk in health without a mask and have only met resistance at one place of business. At this point, it is clear to me that most businesses do not want to enforce these “health mandates” nor do they believe this is about “preventing the spread”.

Legislation is quietly being adopted state by state to protect businesses from civil lawsuits for following public health orders. In other words, if a business follows COVID19 “health” mandates they can not be sued for discriminating and harassing patrons of their business, whereas, a business that doesn’t force compliance may be sued for “causing the illness to spread”.

If you are curious about where all the COVID19 relief money is going you can check it out here. Hint: The Federal Reserve and Big Pharma have taken the lion’s share. How does that $1,200 relief check feel now?

Symbolism

Shifting gears for a moment… I had an interesting dream the other night about an elegant woman with ash blond hair and gray eyes. She was dressed simply but seemed to radiate with grace, power, and wisdom. I watched her intently and that’s when I noticed a small owl sitting on her arm. Wanting to engage her in conversation she then looked at me and I woke from the dream.

Dreams being so full of symbolism, I chanced to see if I could find a figure that matched this description and I quickly found her – Athena the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, Handicraft, and Warfare.

“Let your heart reveal your truth for the ego and mind can lead you astray. Listen and know who you are and where you stand. Only Truth can free you!” ~Pallas Athena

Attributes of Athena

In Homer’s epic works, Athena’s most common epithet is Glaukopis (γλαυκῶπις), which usually is translated as, “bright-eyed” or “with gleaming eyes”. The word is a combination of glaukós (γλαυκός, meaning “gleaming, silvery”, and later, “bluish-green” or “gray”) and ṓps (ὤψ, “eye, face”). The word glaúx (γλαύξ, “little owl”) is from the same root, presumably according to some, because of the bird’s own distinctive eyes. Athena was clearly associated with the owl from very early on; in archaic images, she is frequently depicted with an owl perched on her hand. Through its association with Athena, the owl evolved into the national mascot of the Athenians and eventually became a symbol of wisdom.

I took this as a sign to keep going and to keep fighting for the Truth as I understand it. My husband, thoughtful man that he is, found a pair of earrings cast from a replica of an old Greek coin of Athena and her owl. He purchased them for me and I adore them (and him).

Decide

Honestly, as I write this, there is a place deep inside me that is crashing with conflict. How serious are the circumstances swirling around us? Will it get worse? What am I supposed to do about it? The conflict is one of action or inaction. I will listen to my intuition and the symbolism of my dream – I will not abandon Truth. Always there, that power within that is just waiting to be discovered, recognized, and released. The times we live in are calling us to identify with Truth – tap at the door and let it open. This is what it means to “move mountains” or said another way…

Frodo: I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times; but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought.

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien

Will you voluntarily place the ring in your nose or will you throw it in the lake of fire?

Digging In

As Winter approaches Serenity sits in the driveway (again) but we still spend a lot of time there – our “tree house” filled with the bits and pieces of our life. Reminding us that adventure awaits but is just on hold for the time being.

We are digging in at my brother’s house and we are, all of us, making the best of it. We are fortunate. We are blessed. We have been welcomed and given shelter as the days grow short and the winds bring more inevitable change. Life knows what’s best. We may not understand it but this is where we learn to trust – ourselves, our loved ones, and the growth that comes from the challenges we face.

Thanks for reading and remember, fulfillment doesn’t come from seeking outside experiences to fill the inside emptiness. Water the inner landscape, explore its riches, that you may “know thyself” and not waste the time you have been given.

Jan 2022: Looking back at this post now… We have not wavered from the Truth. Not once have we acquiesced to the mandates, the guidelines, the “greater good” shame artists. This year we have decided to take the next step and create a more permanent living arrangement with my brother for the time being. Waiting and watching as the world erupts in its sudden realization that it has been duped… We do plan to take Serenity (our trailer) out this year and finally live out part of our plan that we committed to back in 2020. A big thanks to all of you that have stood firm and resolute in Truth. Much love to you all.
