Independence
Decision made. Life has been nothing but moving targets lately. Today, Ken decided to hand in his resignation at work. His last day with D&B Supply is July 12th. A belated “independence” day for us! It is a bit sooner than we had planned but we calculated that it was our best option under the current circumstances.
As most of you are aware our plan to sell our house and travel in Serenity, our trailer, was sidetracked by the lockdown. Having come to our own conclusions over this threat we have decided to move ahead with our plan. Still in the process of preparing the house for sale it would seem a bit premature to quit before the house is sold. Like I said before, so many moving targets. Our reasons for jumping the gun are twofold. Getting ready for this move is such an enormous task and we are starting to run out of time. That, and his health could no longer withstand following the irrational rules set up by his employer in response to the “pandemic”. At some point, when your body is screaming “Enough!”, it is wise to pay attention and take back your authority over self to preserve your health (both physical and mental).
Let’s Talk
No more talk about coronavirus. Let’s talk about real life and the move. Things are starting out well. I was able to negotiate with our Realtor to reduce the agent fee! My pitch was simply that there is no need for an Open House, no advertising, or staging. It’s a risk that may affect our ability to sell quickly but in this “hot” seller’s market we were willing to gamble. Keep your fingers and toes crossed that it was the right decision.
The photographer is due to arrive on July 13th so we have to get the house “staged” and ready in three days – we can do it! The interior has to be cleansed of all clutter and minimized to promote the appearance of more space. The exterior must be sprayed down, windows washed, and the yard manicured. I am just thankful the house is a small single story so it will make the task that much easier (I hope).
The house is scheduled to be listed on July 15th. Any guesses on how long it will take to sell? If I were a betting person I’d say we will receive three offers the very next day. We haven’t decided what the list price will be yet but are certain there will be a “bidding war” (the best kind of war) so the plan is to start high and see where things go. We still can’t believe we are doing this but we have always been the types that if told to “zig” we “zag”.
Challenges
In addition to coordinating the sale of the house we also have to prepare Serenity for travel. The most challenging aspect will be modifying some of the space to accommodate a cat box. We also discovered that Pangur gets motion sickness (uh oh) and so we will be experimenting with CBD supplements to alleviate the nausea. The second challenge is creating an effective compost potty that will not smell and be easy to manage. We think we have a solution and will obviously write about that in later posts.
This was a short entry but I wanted to keep every one up to date. The timeline keeps ticking and soon enough we will be at your doorstep. Our first step into independence will most likely begin in mid August and our first stop will be Utah! Shaun and Angie have graciously allowed us to use their place as a “home base”. Very grateful to you guys… Thanks for reading.
Wow! Great tasks ahead of you, but hope all goes well! The house across from my mom’s recently sold in 1 day! Hope the same goes for yours. We will be looking forward to updates.
All the best –
Love, Julie
Would love it if it sells in a day! Will let you know when it has been listed so you can see the house. xox
God’s speed, will be with you all the way. Can’t wait to meet up somewhere.
We look forward to that too! Thanks for all the support and encouragement… x
1 day, but let the people run wild over the price, because they will. I would say , you will get over $400,000 for it !
Real Estate people are just con-artist , nobody calls it that way, but they manipulate everything to MAKE MONEY.
Real estate is going up quickly in this area but not to that extent – not yet. Our agent is an honest man and so far it has been a good experience. I hear you though, we’ve worked with some bad apples in the past. Keep you posted on how things progress. 🙂
